All cards will be provided with diagnostic features with High diagnostic coverage per channel at the component level, able to detect any failure and giving a diagnostic alarm. Replacement of I/O cards shall be possible while the DCS is powered. Removal and insertion of a DCS I/O card shall not affect the supply of field power to other loops connected to the DCS. Shut down switches will work as follows: when the contact coming from the switch is OPEN, the shutdown sequence will start. This solution guarantees that plant shutdown is initiated only if requested by the operator and not as a consequence of a single hardware failure.
